The Mixture of Duty and Love: A Small Repair, A Big Smile

Power cuts have become almost routine these days. They bring with them the frustration of interrupted work, flickering lights, and at times, malfunctioning gadgets. Today was no different. My computer, after several attempts to power it on, showed no display—just a blank screen, as if giving up silently under the strain of unstable power supply. I was busy with some urgent work, as usual.

In the midst of this, my daughter approached me with her eyes full of hope. Her voice, a mix of innocence and urgency, asked me to fix the computer. I responded, “I’ll fix it tomorrow.” But today, something was different. Her face slowly turned gloomy, her eyes filled with tears, and tears started streaming down her cheeks. She pleaded with me to put aside my work just for a while and attend to the computer. The desperation in her voice was unlike any request I had heard before.

I couldn’t say no.

There was no choice but to set aside my work and focus entirely on this small but significant personal request. At first, I was clueless. The display remained blank, the fans spun briefly, and then silence. But slowly, piece by piece, I checked connections, cleaned the hardware, reset configurations, and carefully examined every component. To my surprise, the reluctant computer flickered back to life.

Her eyes lit up the moment the screen came alive.

I couldn’t describe the joy that spread across her face. To me, it was my eleventh computer repair involving hardware issues—another routine challenge to tackle. But to her, it was a monumental success, as if I had brought back a world that was lost. That smile, that sparkle of happiness in her eyes, made me realize how small acts of care and attention weave the strongest threads of love in our relationships.

In life, we often get caught up in our responsibilities, and the continuous chase for productivity. We forget that amidst the hustle, there are moments that call for a pause—a gentle shift of focus towards those who need us most. The mixture of duty and love doesn’t always come naturally, but when it does, it creates something beautiful, something worth cherishing.

Today, a power cut and a broken computer became more than just an inconvenience. They became a reminder that love, patience, and presence matter the most, even in the smallest of gestures.
