Do Not Leave the Eternal for the Temporary
There is a simple truth that often returns to my mind: Leave not God, who is eternal, for the world that is temporary and mortal.
Over the years, I have observed something about human influence. A man’s word carries weight. Sometimes it carries more weight than it should. Words spoken by people around us can influence our thinking, shape our emotions, and even disturb our convictions.
I have seen how even a person who sincerely believes in God can become shaken by the influence of another person. Slowly, almost unnoticed, the voice of man begins to sound louder than the voice of God. When that happens, faith may begin to weaken.
Such is the power of words. A single sentence spoken by someone can build a person or break him. It can strengthen a heart or wound it. At times, it may even cause a person to drift away from God.
This can happen regardless of who the speaker may be. It may be someone respected, someone influential, someone close, or someone who appears wise in the eyes of the world. Position, background, education, or authority often give extra weight to human words. Yet, at the end of the day, they remain human words, limited and fallible.
But God is not like man. God is righteous. God is holy. God is omnipotent. God is omniscient. God is omnipresent. God is infallible.
His righteousness never fails. His holiness is beyond human measure. His power has no limit. His knowledge is perfect. His presence fills all places, and His truth never errs.
Men may speak and change. Opinions may rise and fall. Influence may shake our thoughts for a while. But God remains the same.
Therefore, let us be careful never to leave the eternal God because of the temporary voice of man. Human words may fade with time, but the word of God stands forever.
